A few weeks back we took Annika to the local park. She rode the swings, laughed at the other children, and it was all a lot of fun. Until we put her on the grass. I'm not sure if it was how it looked, how it felt, or what, but she was NOT HAPPY on the grass. She'd crawl into Mommy's lap and squirm around. Eventually if a foot slipped off onto the grass, she would freak out all over again.
Needless to say, we've been working on that.
Annika seems to have overcome that phase, but only to a degree. She is starting to take longer and longer series of steps indoors, but seems to be somewhat immobilized on grass.

Chris was over 2 y.o. the first time we took him to the beach. We thought it would be a treat (it was for the girls) but had to carry him from the parking lot to the blanket every time. The feel of sand between his toes made him just stand there and scream.
