A lot of people use "Colic" as the generic catch-all for any baby that seems to cry a lot, for reasons they can't explain. Either way, based on most of the classic definitions, even our pediatrician is pretty convinced that what's afflicting Annika is, in fact, Colic. Bummer.I'm thoroughly convinced that the upside of this is that nothing else seems to be wrong with her. If we can survive the trial-by-crying with our sanity intact, she'll emerge on the other end healthy, which is all that really matters.
In the mean time, we do our best to ameliorate the fussy times with any weapon at our disposal. Recently, the best tool at hand has been the big bench swing hung from the pergola in the back yard. For reasons passing understanding, Annika isn't a fan of the baby swing, even after I modified it to run 24/7 on AC power if need be, but she has responded well to swinging outdoors. Even as the weather has cooled and we have to bundle her up, and even long after the sun has set and the swinging sets off the motion-detector halogen spots, she seems very happy on the swing. Oh, and just as when trying to calm her in the car seat, the swing has to be MOVING. No sissy swinging or languorous oscillation, please. Only serious, active, swing-drivers need apply here.
I can see her first words... Faster, Higher Daddy!!!
